First line of CAD support for all of Engineering and any other CAD users. Responsible for training users in FATG CATIA / CAD Management methods, and ensures that those methods are followed.  General support for Engineering Processes Team.  This role is in our Orange County, CA corporate offices.

Responsibilities

Together with Engineering Processes Team, the CAD Specialist defines, implements and provides training on all topics related to CAD/CATIA “best practice” methodologies, in order to ensure consistent methods and processes are used throughout different platforms & programs.

 

Training, Work Instructions and Standards:

  • Develops CAD related training materials. Writes and facilities release of CAD Standards and Work Instructions.  Trains & supports Designers and DREs regarding all CATIA / CAD related topics.
  • Participates or facilitates in CAD Committee Meetings. Documents and uses Designer’s feedback to enhance/build “best practices”.
  • Support CAD Systems Engineer in the identification and implementation of new CAD Solutions

CAD Checking and Maintenance:

  • Ensures CAD design best practices are followed to maintain high fidelity CAD Data for downstream users by implementing and utilizing an automated CAD Checker.
  • Supports CAD Systems Engineer and Engineering Processes Team to designs systems and programs to meet highly complex business needs.
  • Prepares detailed specifications from which programs are developed and new solutions/tools are identified/developed

 Involvement in ECR Process and Data Checks:

  • Primary “CAD Checker” in the ECR process.
  • Ensures that data from suppliers falls within the Karma Automotive Data Integrity Standards before introducing and releasing the data into our systems.

Support for Engineering and Vehicle Integration (VI):

  • Supports virtual build activities. Together with VI, Ensures Module and Vehicle DMU data is current and accurate.
  • Assists the Dimensional group with standardization and formatting related to Drawings. Assists the Dimensional Team in checking, importing and releasing supplier Drawings into FAST.
  • Assists PAD and Aftersales Illustration teams with Assembly Instruction formatting and standardization

Qualifications

 

  • A minimum of 2  to 5 years in the CATIA / CAD environment; Excellent knowledge of CATIA V5
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent or CAD working experience
  • CATIA/CAD management, configuration, administration and support experience preferredKnowledge of automotive business process, part design, assembly design preferred
  • Knowledge of automotive business process, part design, assembly design preferred

  • Exposure to / experience in a PDM environment (SmartTeam preferred); exposure to CAD-PLM solutions
  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to perform tasks from multiple projects simultaneously
