Our work environment is casual, and our culture is results-oriented.  The Functional Safety Lead Engineer (Powertrain Systems) is responsible for planning and leading functional safety activities in compliance with ISO 26262 Functional Safety Standard. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of functional safety technical work products (hazard analysis and risk assessment, item definition, functional safety concept, technical safety requirements, FTA's, FMEA's, and other safety analyses for safety requirements);
  • Develop processes and standards within Karma Automotive to ensure compliance with the ISO 26262 standard and promote a safety culture at Karma Automotive;
  • Act as Functional Safety Manager for the development programs;
  • Manage and review the functional safety work products according to Karma Automotive’s documentation guidelines and processes;
  • Develop test case specifications for safety requirements;
  • Lead functional safety reviews;
  • Support bench/HIL tests and system/vehicle validation of functional safety requirements;
  • Coordinate engineers working at the system, hardware and software development level within Karma Automotive and suppliers to achieve functional safety objectives;
  • Perform other duties as necessary for completion of functional safety developments and achievement of departmental goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME).  Masters / PhD of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree preferred;
  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility and hands on experience with safety systems and hardware/software development;
  • Experience in functional safety development with a major OEM on production intent development programs;
  • Detailed knowledge of hybrid powertrain, energy storage subsystems and controls
  • Safety engineering and the ISO 26262 standard advanced knowledge;
  • FMEA and FTA principles and analysis techniques knowledge;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Visio, Word and Excel.
