Our work environment is casual, and our culture is results-oriented.  The Functional Safety Engineer (Powertrain Systems) is responsible for performing safety activities, according to the request of the Functional Safety Lead Engineer and providing assistance to the program teams in delivering the work products of the safety case in compliance with ISO 26262 Functional Safety Standard

Responsibilities

  • Development of functional safety technical work products (hazard analysis and risk assessment, item definition, functional safety concept, technical safety requirements, FTA's, FMEA's, and other safety analyses for safety requirements);
  • Documentation of the functional safety work products according to Karma Automotive’s documentation guidelines and processes;
  • Development of test case specifications for safety requirements;
  • Participating in functional safety reviews;
  • Supporting bench/HIL tests and system/vehicle validation of functional safety requirements;
  • Collaboration with the engineers working at the system, hardware and software development level and assisting them to achieve functional safety objectives;
  • Performing other duties as necessary for completion of functional safety developments and achievement of departmental goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME).  Master's in Mecanical or Electrical Engineering preferred;
  • 2+ years demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on experience with Powertrain Safety Systems;
  • Experience in functional safety development with a major OEM on production intent development programs;
  • Solid  knowledge of ISO26262 standards;
  • FMEA and FTA principles and analysis techniques knowledge and experience;
  • Detailed knowledge of hybrid powertrain, energy storage subsystems and controls;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Visio, Word and Excel
