If these commitments excite you, we would love to talk.  The Manager (Body Structures) is primary responsible to investigate and define the next generation body architectures.  The sub-role for this position will be to support current production engineering on implementing new technologies to existing platforms.  This position is located in our Costa Mesa, CA facility.



  • Define future body architectures for new platforms;
  • Must understand economies of scale as it pertains to body materials and manufacturing methodologies;
  • Create and manage timelines for designing and validating chosen ideas;
  • Work closely with current production engineering, manufacturing engineering and vehicle integration;
  • Keep abreast of and report out regularly on emerging automotive technologies; 
  • Create DVPR’s and DFMEA’s from component to vehicle level;
  • 0-52 week lead in body development on new programs;
  • Represent body organization in all innovation meetings;
  • Develop high level business plans for certain body constructions, understanding costs of materials, performance, and manufacturing processes;
  • Provide design solutions that are weight and performance driven;
  • Create tradeoff proposals for Studio and Engineering, review to balance budget. Suggest low-cost material alternatives;
  • Coordinate/develop criteria sections with integrated safety counter-measure features included;
  • Develop core competencies across emerging platforms to reduce complexity and cost.


  • BSME required, Master’s Degree preferred;
  • 10+ years in a body design and engineering role with 5+ years in a Body / Product Lead design role  and 5+  years Body Structures, Closures and/or Exterior parts design;
  • Knowledgeable in not only body structures but also closures and exterior components.  Ideal candidate must have a strong materials background;
  • CATIA V5 / R17 and FAST Expert Knowledge required;
  • Previous OEM and automotive experience required with assembly plant launch experience highly sought;
  • Dimensional Management and Dimensional Checking experience preferred and an understanding of GD&T required;
  • Experience Benchmarking light weight materials, alternative fixing and joining technologies and applying those into the design activities as appropriate;
  • Steel door design and aluminum in panel forming experience with other closure materials such as aluminum doors, SMC decklid and fender experience preferred;
  • Experience in developing Criteria Development Section (Typical Sections).
