The Warranty Engineer will be a part of the new Current Product Engineering group at Karma. The position is needed in order to analyze parts retruned through warranty, and to process any required engineering changes resulting from that analysis.

Responsibilities

External Customer Focus

  • Organize and prepare monthly reviews with customer management to review warranty status
  • Facilitate warranty parts tracking systems, JIRA issue management and issue resolution actions
  • Manage warranty parts center and assign parts to engineering, supplier quality, or manufacturing quality issue owners
    • Triage part returns and ensure timely analysis and submission
    • Establish and manage analysis response time
  • Tracks location/status of all warranty-returned parts
    • Develops and reports metrics on parts/location/status

Issue Management

  • Identify emerging cost and condition trends securing supporting details for problem solving
  • Lead teams to root cause top external issues and develop solutions
  • Lead teams to root cause top No Trouble Found
  • Receives & reviews returned parts from customer
  • Lead root cause resolution of warranty returns
  • Makes initial determination where part should be sent to obtain root cause
    • Performs initial inspection/analysis
    • Makes necessary arrangements to send part to appropriate “owner”
  • Review all repair information to determine the correct course of action in determining the root cause of the complaint/failure and coordinate containment activities with the plant where appropriate
  • Record the daily findings during root cause analysis and publish a summary
  • Facilitates timely responses to the warranty parts and warrant engineering issues
    • Makes assignments and coordinates multi-functional stages for warranty questions
    • Enters status/updates into JIRA
    • Prompts organization when deadlines approach
    • Initiates and ensures the quality of the 8D
    • Escalates roadblocks/issues
    • Analysis will include investigation by way of dealership calls, use of corporate data systems, involvement with suppliers and their testing procedures
    • Proposes revision to customer and plant repair procedures to reduce costs and improve repair accuracy
    • Tracks location/status of all warranty-returned parts
    • Develops and reports metrics on parts/location/status

 

Internal Customer Activities

  • Statistical analysis of field warranty cases to identify high impact, high profitability issues that need escalation and action
  • Participates on problem solving teams and submits lessons learned based on warranty part findings. Leads specific problem solving teams for some issues.
    • Analysis will include investigation by way of dealership calls, use of corporate data systems, involvement with suppliers and their testing procedures
  • Assist in accurate cost recovery with Finance, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality where appropriate
  • Continued development and operation of reliability tools
  • Development analysis methodologies and tools for warranty analysis
  • Provide supporting analysis tools for use by engineers using widely available software – e.g Excel
  • Where necessary, coordinate assemble, and install, remove, disassemble and repair components and related parts
  • Review all repair information to determine the correct course of action in determining the root cause of the complaint/failure and coordinate containment activities with the plant where appropriate
  • Maintain warranty parts storage area cleanliness and accuracy of records
  • Interfaces with assembly plant, supplier quality, TSS and engineering to complete warranty analyses
    • Coordinates warranty parts reviews
    • Discusses and disputes incorrect claims
    • Initiates and participates in “Trouble Not Found” analyses and vehicle system-level analysis

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 3-5 Years of experience with automotive vehicle or automotive component systems engineering (product, manufacturing, or test)
  • BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • Proficient in ETAS/INCA data acquisition system
  • Fundamental understanding of complete automotive vehicle architecture and functions
  • Strong communication skills to drive work across organization
  • Strong data and statistical analysis skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Proficient Excel skills

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with multiple automotive systems
  • Experience in multiple OEM customer warranty systems
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification and Red-X experience
  • Masters in Engineering related field
  • Highly organized and able to work multiple issues
  • Foreign language capability to enable reading of warranty data in multiple languages (Mandarin, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese predominant)
  • Automotive dealership knowledge and service experience
