If these commitments excite you, we would love to talk.  The Engineering Designer performs design and development of exterior components from concept through program approval.  Work with body/interior/exterior/electrical/wiring engineers to design/develop/package exterior components and assemblies. Create 3D CAD models utilizing Catia V5 to efficiently package and interface in surrounding environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design exterior components (Fascia, Grilles, Claddings, Spoilers, Trim)
  • Develop/package/synthesize vehicle systems (exterior)
  • Develop study/proposal models
  • Create feasible master requirement sections
  • Create Catia V5 math models for Exterior commodities (Fascia, Grille, spoiler, claddings, trim) using advanced modeling techniques in Generative Shape Design (GSD) and Part Body. Knowledge of Smart Team a plus
  • Working with Studio and studio surface. Creating countermeasures and proposals with minimal effects to styling theme
  • Report and escalate major issues immediately to Exterior Engineering Supervisor
  • Coordinate/develop criteria sections with integrated safety counter-measure features included
  • Communicate issues to studio and suppliers
  • Extensive utilization and knowledge of Catia V5 modeling
  • Additional responsibilities include understanding/creating exterior assembly architecture and construction techniques, defining master template modeling structures, and developing and designing exterior component architecture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS), Bachelor of Science (BS), Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent industry experience is acceptable
  • Extensive knowledge of Catia V5 modeling (5+ years using advanced functions)
  • Problem solving experience where issues are unusual and difficult
  • Previous OEM experience and automotive experience is preferred
  • Understanding of GD&T is required
  • Experience benchmarking design solutions and applying those into the design activities as appropriate
  • Experience with Class A Surface development and in developing (Typical Solutions) required
  • Experience with regulatory requirements preferred
  • 0%-20% travel - domestic and international
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills with the following: injection molding of large plastic components, experience with large injection molded assemblies, blow molded components, extrusions, metal stampings, or metallic subassemblies
