The Network Engineer will engineer and administrate network systems. The IT Network Engineer role is responsible for building and maintaining and engineering the entire network landscape. The Network Engineer is responsible for preemptively solving problems based on metrics so that we fix an issue before it breaks. They are also responsible for building new infrastructure and recommending upgrades/fixes that will support the company enterprise wide. In the Karma Environment, our Network Engineer is a behind the scenes role where if they are doing everything correctly, everything stays stable and working for a productive enterprise.

 

** This position will work in our Irvine California coprorate offices.  **

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal and external resources under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Own problems and make sure that the enterprise is able to continue their work effectively.
  • Report any common issues to see if there is a system issue that should be looked at.
  • Communicate datacenter/network needs to IT leadership.
  • Analyze network architecture and recommend changes to improve redundancy and resiliency.
  • Secure network systems by establishing and enforming policies.

  • Be Passionate about their work ethic and not allow simple issues to be insurmountable tasks
  • Maintain and perform periodic network devices software update e.g. Firewall Management Servers, Wireless LAN Controller, and Wireless Access Points.
  • Test, maintain, and monitor server programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.
  • Setup and maintain the server component of a client/server model.
  • Work with IT leadership and advise hardware and software decisions on virtual network devices and network device operating system level.
  • Consult with management to ensure agreement on system principles.
  • Expand or modify system to serve new purposes or improve work flow.
  • Interview or survey workers, observe job performance and/or perform the job in order to determine what information is processed and how it is processed.
  • Analyze enterprise network infrastructure to plan and suggest changes upgrades to accommodate business needs and sustain business capacity.
  • Help Develop, document and revise system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards by understanding customer use of systems and suggesting changes to IT leadership.
  • Review and analyze network reports and performance indicators to help root cause, and correct problems.
  • Read manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn how to develop programs that meet staff and user requirements.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 6-8 years’ experience in an IT network engineer role.
  • Bachelor (4-year) degree with a technical major such as engineering or computer science (or equivalent education and applicable work experience) 
  • Preferred 8 years prior Information Technology experience required
  • F5/A10 Experience preferred
  • Juniper experience preferred
  • Microsoft Server Applications knowledge a plus.  System Center, Lync, etc.
  • CCNA / JNCIA / JNCIS or relevant experience. 
  • Intermediate experience with Firewall, Routing, Switching technologies (eg. Juniper SRX and EX series products). 
  • Experience with WAN Optimization technologies (eg. Riverbed Steelhead). 
  • Knowledge of POTS, DS1/T1, E1, Fiber, GigE and 10GigE, VoIP, SIP 
  • Experience in various Network CLI languages such as Cisco, Juniper, HP 
  • Advanced Knowledge of OSI Model, IP Addressing, subnetting, VLAN, routing 
  • Advanced experience with routers, layer 2 and layer 3 switches 
  • Intermediate experience with Spanning Tree, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, iBGP, MPLS and VPN technologies. 
  • Advanced experience with network functions such as DHCP, DNS, AD, WINS and how to design and administer solutions as well as troubleshoot problems as they relate to the network operations. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of load balancers and firewalls. 
  • Intermediate experience with packet capture and analysis, span/mirror port strategy and related network monitoring tools. 
  • Advanced knowledge of wireless technologies and security. 
  • Intermediate experience with Windows operating systems from 2003 to current. 
  • Strong skills in communication, both written and verbal 
  • Strong skills in arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
  • Strong skills in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 
  • Able to execute projects and not be afraid to ask questions if needed.
  • Be proactive in suggesting upgrades / efficiencies to help out the enterprise.
  • Maintains strong attention to detail in high-pressure situations
  • Solid understanding of business practices with fundamental understanding of project management methodology

Preferred:

  • Experience working with Riverbed Cascade, Cascade Pilot and Steelhead.
  • Experience working with Juniper Networks SRX and EX 
  • Experience with Check Point firewalls.
  • MCSE / MCSP 
  • Experience with large-scale network upgrade projects with national distribution. 
  • Basic knowledge of network oriented enterprise storage solutions (iSCSI, FCoE) WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 
  • This is primarily a sedentary office classification but may require field visits and driving. Temperature conditions are controlled with no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. There is occasional exposure to irate staff, vendors or patients, but there is negligible anticipation of exposure to violence. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, keyboard, to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, see, talk and hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or carry reports, records and other materials that typically weigh less than 20 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch. 
  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, and other standard office equipment.
