    The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of OBD system testing and the associated regulations and industry standards.  This engineer will be responsible for providing expertise related to OBD system testing.  The engineer will be responsible for the overall OBD system testing, with a focus on OBD PVE (§1968.2 (j)(1), (j)(2), and (j)(3)), including: developing and documenting test procedures, designing and sourcing test equipment, executing the tests, documenting the results, and recording all information in a requirements management database. 


    • Responsible for overall OBD system ((j)(1), (j)(2), and (j)(3)) testing, including creation of overall test plan, in compliance with the latest 1968.2 regulations, to achieve specific program timing.
    • Apply working knowledge of CCR Title 13 §1968.2 to aid in test procedures setup and producing proper feedback reports.
    • Apply knowledge of applicable standards used to implement a compliant and certifiable vehicle-level OBD system such as: SAE J1979, J1699, J1978 and J2012.
    • Responsible to create test procedures, execute tests, and document results to ensure proper functioning of the OBD system for all Powertrain ECUs. Must work with all relevant Powertrain ECUs to gather information necessary to define required testing.
    • Responsible to source and build all test equipment necessary to perform the required testing and capture the necessary test data.
    • Communicate with affected groups and provide feedback using internal issues management system (Jira) for problems uncovered during testing.
    • Work with OBD group in establishing company standards, procedures, and requirements for the company as relates to OBD testing and test documentation.
    • Setup and manage test requirements and test cases in Application Lifecycle Management suite (Polarion).
    • Work with relevant ECU engineers regarding software release process (e.g., ensure proper CVN, CAL ID, ODX / CANdela file content).
    • Aid in preparation of OBD II Certification Documentation.


    • BS. in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics)
    • Demonstrate excellence in electric circuits, sensors, actuators signals diagnostics, and simulation
    • Working knowledge of basic OBD sensor diagnostics
    • Display specific understanding of engine and electrified powertrain components OBD monitoring
    • Basic understanding of PHEV / EV powertrain architecture
    • At least 1 year experience in OBD (more experience is a plus)
    • Working knowledge of CARB OBD II regulations (Title 13 CCR §1968.2)
    • Working knowledge of vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN)
    • Familiarity with applicable industry standards (J1979, J1699, J1978, J2012)
    • Familiarity with diagnostic protocols (J1979, UDS)
    • Knowledge of ODX / CANdela / diagnostic descriptor files
    • Experiencing running PVE (j)(1) and (j)(2) testing (highly desired)
    • Experience with CANalyzer and Vector suite software/hardware (desired)
    • Experience performing in-vehicle testing utilizing break-out-boxes or other fault insertion methods (desired)
    • Experience with HIL testing (desired)
