The Lead Trim Modeler, Craftsmanship reports to the Vice President of Design Operations & Craftsmanship to design, develop, create/craft/fabricate & validate automotive trim applications and execute tasks relative to the Global Design Craftsmanship department.



  • Develop, fabricate & craft physical properties & models, using a range of materials & fabrication methods (including upholstery, adhesion & sewing techniques), by working directly with Studio Designers & Material/Studio/Interior Engineers to ensure high aesthetic quality & engineering/manufacturing feasibility.
  • Physical properties & models include, but are not limited to; interior trim, seats, accessories, evaluation samples, prototype parts & exterior trim (where applicable).
  • Support Design Reviews as needed to ensure aesthetic & engineering requirements are met.
  • Assist with project development, coordination & execution.
  • Assist with the coordination & execution of relevant external resources, including quotes.
  • Assist with the development & maintenance of the Design Modeling Studio, including the calibration & maintenance of department machinery, tools & instruments.
  • Continuously contribute perspectives & ideas ensuring Karma Automotive remains a leader in the world of aesthetic design.
  • Utilize experience to develop & mentor team members.
  • Must be able to accept personal responsibility & accountability for assignment execution & quality of work & be able to identify Problems, recommend solutions & resolve issues.
  • Must be able to communicate efficiently & effectively with internal & external departments & work equally well within a team or individually as required.


  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in trim craftsmanship, including the upholstering, cut & sew of leather and other materials. 7 years in automotive interior environments preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Art, Design or Engineering preferred but not required with equivalent extensive experience.
