Overview

The Director, Material Management will oversee the transportation, warehousing, and movement of material throughout the supply chain, warehouse and manufacturing facility.  Ensure that the correct material is delivered to the correct point in a timely manner. May be directly involved in inventory control, transportation, warehousing and monitoring the flow of material.  Director of Logistics must have a comprehensive understanding of supply chain management for coordinating effectively with the purchasing, suppliers, plant material control, and manufacturing

 

This position is based in Moreno Valley, CA. Relocation is available. 

Responsibilities

  • Drive and facilitate the organization’s logistics and material management strategy.
  • Maintaining the order flow of all material throughout the Supply Chain process.
  • Evaluating and reviewing the organization’s logistics and warehouse operation business practices, updating and developing process documentation, streamlining opportunities, and eliminating the non-value added services; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping.
  • Achieves warehouse operations operational objectives by contributing warehouse operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, and quality standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends.
  • Meets warehouse operations financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Must be able to execute inventory management processes such as inventory control, inventory identification, cycle counting and physical inventory counts. Must understand the financial implications of inventory movements and transactions and the impact on the business.
  • Execute Material Resource Planning (MRP) concepts and transactions aligned with company strategy and process flow.
  • Develop and maintain line side material delivery strategy keeping inventory to a minimum.
  • Manages the import/export process and ensures compliance with U.S. and foreign government laws and regulations.
  • Oversees the completion of paperwork and transactions associated with international distribution in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain routes and lanes for inbound material shipments.
  • Develop and manage the delivery process for vehicles aligned with company objectives and strategies.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Accomplishes warehouse and plant material control operations human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Strong business acumen for effectively managing the costs and revenues
  • Strong understanding of Inventory Management, Warehouse Management, Transportation Management and Import/Export Regulations.
  • Self –managing and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computers, especially spreadsheets.
  • Superb negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • 50% Travel (mostly within Southern California)
  • Able to work in a warehouse environment which may include moderate amount of walking and/or standing for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Able to lift 20lbs of dead weight.

Education and Qualification

  • A bachelors’ degree in business or supply chain related field or equivalent job experience.
  • An MBA is a plus, not required
  • Over seven years’ experience in logistics management and three years’ experience in managing logistics staff.
