The Thermal Test Engineer will support the Karma Thermal CAE and Test Team with vehicle validation plans, instrumentation, on-site and off-site testing, data post-processing, and test procedure documentation.  

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal testing of Karma development and production vehicles;
  • Drive and collect thermal test data during off-site test runs;
  • Set up and perform bench testing of thermal system components;
  • Write detailed test plans and test procedures;
  • Troubleshoot thermal system and vehicle problems to find root cause and fixes on test/development vehicles;
  • Help instrument test mules and development vehicles with all thermal test equipment including thermocouples, pressure sensors, flowmeters, and data collection systems;
  • Support other Karma groups with test requirements when needed;
  • Travel to supplier test sites to support test drives and wind tunnel validations;
  • Post-process test results and put into presentation format;
  • Communicate efficiently & effectively with internal & external departments & work within a team situation or individually;
  • Support thermal analysis and calibration of thermal and aerothermal models using test data.

Qualifications

  • 5 – 10 years of experience as a test engineer in an automotive, industrial or consulting setting working on multiple projects/platforms;
  • BS or MS in mechanical, aerospace, or electrical engineering;
  • Experienced with calibration and data acquisition tools, e.g. ETAS INCA, Vector CANalyzer, NeoVi / Vehicle Spy
  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics, conduction, convection, and radiative heat transfer;
  • Background and interest in thermal engineering;
  • Background and interest in hybrid and electric vehicles;
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude;
  • Script writing, CATIA, and thermal analysis tool experience helpful
