Duties: Develop and design software and algorithms for Karma Automotive's hybrid vehicle control system. Perform control unit system development based on model-based design and software development processes for electronic controls and integrated systems. Design, implement, test, and integrate system-level software architectures for operating hybrid electric-gasoline control modules, ensuring vehicle-level integration and compatibility. Perform structured analysis, fault tree analysis/hazard analysis, system diagnostics analysis, and control system calibration. Capture control systems requirements for core hybrid vehicle control functions, functional safety monitors, and diagnostics control interfaces. Develop control system function specifications to major subsystems, including the engine, high voltage battery, generator inverter, traction motor inverter, and DC/DC converter. Design and validate control algorithms using MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow. Implement algorithms using Auto-Code generation tools (e.g., Real-Time Workshop-Embedded Code and dSPACE TargetLink). Develop power train system Hardware in Loop (HIL), Software in Loop (SIL), and Model in Loop (MIL) validation infrastructure to support vehicle program plans and quality objectives. Troubleshoot vehicle/powertrain system function and diagnostic issues, while determining and validating corrective actions and preventive measures. Participate in control system peer design reviews. Perform control system unit and integration tests, using MIL, SIL, and HIL environments. Specify software test plans and requirements. Perform vehicle level hybrid control system validations. Interface with suppliers to capture requirements for successful hybrid vehicle control integration. Provide specialized training to manufacturing and service employees. Work with control system calibration tools (e.g., Etas INCA and ATI Vision), CAN communication tools (e.g., Vector CANalyzer and Kvaster), functional safety ISO26262 requirements, On Board Diagnostics Requirements, and diagnostics verification and compliance.


Requirements: Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field, plus two (2) years of automotive engineering, calibration engineering, or related experience, working with vehicle development and system integration; developing the controls of powertrain systems; benchmarking, researching and applying latest developments in powertrain engineering; validating powertrain control algorithms; and defining and developing control system requirements.
