    The Powertrain System Engineer is responsible for requirements definition, design, analysis and development of the inter-module communication and ECU layout of the powertrain system.



    • Responsible for the communication, specification and layout of the powertrain ECU subsystem consisting of:
      • Inverter / APM / OBCM / SPBC / HCU / ECM / BECM / powertrain controls as a unified subsystem. 
    • Responsible for overall function and performance of the vehicle charging system
    • Create subsystem technical specifications
    • Create and manage subsystem DFMEA and DVP&R
    • Work with PT Systems Validation engineer to verify function/performance of the PT system meets requirements
    • Work with hybrid controls, powertrain electrical, powertrain mechanical, chassis and EE Systems teams to develop systems that meet requirements and ensure powertrain system operates as intended
    • Analyze powertrain performance, NVH and durability and recommend improvements to hardware, software or calibration


    General Requirements for consideration


    Should be able to demonstrate a background knowledge and functional competence in the following areas:

    • Hybrid Powertrain subsystems
      • Transmissions, gears and drivelines operation including dual clutch transmissions
      • Electric motors / generators. (AC Machines)
      • Power Electronics – Inverters, High Voltage Subsystems
      • Battery Packs (Lithium battery technology)
    • Powertrain Interface.
      • Control algorithms and control system development and integration
      • Powertrain calibration
      • Powertrain NVH
      • Electrical systems and EMC
      • Diagnostics & OBD II
      • Reliability growth methodologies (Weibull analysis)


    Character traits and related responsibility

    • Works with all levels of management, including executive management
    • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans
    • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments
    • Communicates directly with management and cross-functional leaders as required
    • Strong teamwork skills. Able to develop consensus and move the program forward. Develop win-win situations.


    Required Qualifications

    • Undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • 3-5 years of demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on experience with hybrid powertrain systems
    • Broad hybrid powertrain experience


    Preferred Qualifications (In addition to required)

    • Masters / PhD of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent)
    • Hybrid Powertrain development with a major OEM on production intent development programs
    • Detailed knowledge of Power Electronics Inverter, DC-DC Converters, Chargers
    • Detailed understanding of energy storage subsystems and controls
