    The Senior Tooling Estimator reports directly to the Director, Cost Engineering and is responsible for determining “should” costs for all possible tools and cost deltas for all engineering changes.  Leads all efforts to determine and document tooling cost structures for all commodities in all module groups and works with Engineers, Buyers and Finance in cross-functional teams tasked with achieving the best purchased costs for tooling for the company.

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Gather, analyze and interpret product cost, financial, statistical and technical data.
    • Monitor individual cost request timing, manage process to meet established timing.
    • Work involves accuracy, timeliness and the ability to work within the established policies and practices.
    • Assemble and explain all relevant information in support of business cases. Develop viable alternatives and sensitivity analysis of risk factors.
    • Prepare, analyze and present business cases to management.
    • Analysis of specific product cost, comparable product comparisons, capacity analysis and review of multiple inputs and verification of accuracy.
    • Plans and coordinates required cross-functional meetings to review progress on individual projects.
    • Flexibility to work on critical projects in off standard hours as required.
    • Develop and Perform special analysis as needed.
    • Perform costing analysis of engineering changes and take part in design and cost reviews
    • Suggest, develop and implement continuous improvement ideas.
    • Ascertain best practices and software for Cost Estimating and implement within the team.
    • Understand tooling cost elements.
    • Supports the sourcing of “best value” products through domestic, international, and LCC suppliers.
    • Apply VA/VE and Cost Estimation techniques to drive tooling costs reduction in close collaboration with Module buyers.
    • Support analysis and comparisons between piece price differences utilizing high volume tools (higher asset cost) vs lower volume, limited life (lower asset cost) tools.
    • Review, Analyze and Understand key economic influences in the supply chain and make sure macro-economic risks are effectively considered in tooling cost.
    • Support Macro Economic Cost Driver comparisons between LCCs (ie; Mexico vs China labor rates, Overhead, Utilities, Etc)
    • Performs cost analysis with a thorough understanding of cost factors.
    • Comply with established corporate and purchasing policy and processes
    • Compiles and evaluates data for various weekly, monthly, and annual reports (cost reduction, market fluctuation, LCC, supplier ratings, supplier scrap, budget variance, minority sourcing, supplier expenditure, etc.).
    • Attends departmental training, company meetings and HR training awareness sessions.
    • Communicates frequently with internal and external contacts on various issues.
    • Performs other duties as necessary.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor degree or equivalent Supply Chain Management experience.
      • Supply Chain Management
      • Finance
      • Engineering (preferred)
    • Ten or more years of automotive Tool Estimating experience (OEM or Tier 1)
    • Cost estimating experience with different tooling commodities
    • Knowledge of tooling manufacturing processes and cost structures is required.
    • Expert knowledge of injection molding tooling
    • Expert knowledge of large stamping and progressive die tooling.
    • Knowledge of Cost Estimating processes, procedures, and software and the ability to implement effectively and in a timely basis.
    • Willingness to undertake significant travel to visit suppliers and Karma sites – 40-50%
    • Fact based negotiation skills.
    • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans.
    • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments.
    • Communicates directly with management and cross-functional leaders as required.
    • Strong teamwork skills. Able to develop consensus and move the program forward. Develop win-win situations.
