    The Director, Public Relations is an experienced public relations strategist responsible for representing the organization’s viewpoint and values to the media and the public with the goal of gaining positive awareness and recognition in the market, promoting our unique position in the Luxury EV Market, and establishing our technical leadership.

     

    ** This position will work in our Irvine, CA corporate office. **

    Responsibilities

    This position oversees all media relations and provides strategic direction in media relations to promote and protect the organization’s image and reputation and assure alignment with its brand, strategic plan and operational priorities.

    Serves as the key communications adviser to chief revenue officer and other senior leaders in developing strategic external messaging for all Product and Business operations. Also guides crisis communications planning in partnership with internal communications, and manages the organization’s media response to critical or controversial issues. Oversees 24/7 media relations Global Communications staff in Europe and China.

    1. Directs the development and execution of earned media strategy linked to the communications goals and strategic priorities
    2. Directs and cultivates proactive media relations efforts to maintain solid working relationships with key reporters, targeting appropriate local, regional, national, luxury, EV and auto trade media.
    3. Evaluates, prioritizes and guides response to inbound media requests. Assures media relations activities comply with regulatory requirements.
    4. Oversees the organization’s response to media in crisis or breaking news situations.
    5. Owns and manages earned media monitoring and reporting tools; delivers regular reports
    6. Is a leader in the development of key messages for Karma centralized brand coodination.
    7. Actively engages with internal communications leaders that interface with employees, government, suppliers, etc. to ensure 'one voice' for Karma.
    8. Actively engages with Marketing and Communications leaders to promote collaboration within the overall team and assure aligned, coordinated communications and messaging.
    9. Encourages collaborative communication campaigns involving both traditional and internal, social and digital communications teams channels, including creative use of tools and technologies.
    10. Will be a key information source for all media contacts requesting data and insights
    11. Work with marketing writers and PR agency to develop, solicit and place contributed articles, bylines, editorials and other pieces wherever appropriate.
    12. Hires, mentors and provides performance feedback to media relations staff.
    13. Provides coaching develops messaging and guides interviews for all exec leaders interfacing with media.
    14. Share the position of Company spokesperson with the CRO

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or related field. Master’s degree a plus.
    • Minimum of ten years’ experience in public / media relations with an emphasis on media relations and including some supervisory experience.
    • Demonstrated success in media relations based on sound judgment and an understanding of business risks and rewards.
    • Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated editing skills.
    • Understanding of business and financial communications.
    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands in a fast-moving team environment under constant deadlines. Strong leadership skills.
    • Auto industry media relations experience preferred. Experience with luxury lifestyles and EV Industry a plus.
    • Up to 30% travel required, both domestic and international.
