    The Development Engineer, Motor Design and Motor Controls is responsible for requirements, design, simulation, CAE and testing for all electric machines including the electric traction motor, generator, high voltage connector, mounting, thermal and motor controls as a validated subsystem meeting all functional targets for serial production.


    The position includes, but is not limited to:


    • Lead high power and high speed traction drive electric motor, and high power generator design and development supporting component design requirements, critical program deliverables, and alignment to overall vehicle development schedule.
    • Lead the design, analysis, development, and validation of all Electric Machine components, and effectively supports subsystem and vehicle-level integration to ensure high-quality performance.
    • Effectively manage all design changes affecting the Electric Machine components, especially related to larger sub-system requirements (hardware and software).
    • Lead investigation into internal, assembly and customer quality issues for timely, high-confidence resolution. Support robust problem-solving methodology to define root cause and develop issue resolution path.
    • Support electrified powertrain development of program-specific component specifications that ensure compliance to all VTS and Powertrain SSTS requirements (incl. performance, EMC, high voltage safety, thermal, reliability, and durability requirements).
    • Support hardware development within framework of vehicle program functional rollout plan.
    • Develop and synchronize the phased calibration and development plan for the subsystem with program milestones and in conjunction with the vehicle level software release schedule.
    • Support all manufacturing launch activity including Aftersales (diagnostics documentation, service bulletins, etc.).
    • Organize and lead customer/supplier meetings.
    • Support future cost-effective electric powertrain development for global EV market.


    Required Qualifications:

      • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialty in Electric Machines or Electromagnetics.
      • Strong and deep knowledge in electrical machines(PMSM, IM, SRM, etc.) and motor drives
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Experience in leadership, team development, budget planning and project timing control.
      • Excellent technical oral and written communication skills.
      • Ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans.
      • Demonstrated understanding of vehicle development & system integration process.
      • Knowledge of electric machine applications in Electric Vehicles or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV).
      • Hands on experience in electric powertrain systems validation and diagnostics.
      • Familiar with industry standards for electric motor design and manufacturing, especially automotive.
      • Knowledge of calibration and data acquisition tools, e.g. Vector CANalyzer.
      • Knowledge of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of electric machines and vehicle systems.
      • General understanding of automotive industry standards such as SAE, ISO, etc.


      • Demonstrated project/program-management experience within automotive Tier-1 or Tier-2 supply base
      • Strong problem solving skills.
      • Sense of urgency and strong attention to detail.


    Preferred Qualifications: (In addition to required):


    • PhD in Electrical Engineering with specialty in Traction Electric Machines and motor controls.
    • Demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on experience with automotive OEM high voltage electrical systems used in electric or hybrid electric vehicles.
    • Experience with Hybrid vehicle/powertrain systems.
    • Experience with automotive OEM or Tier-1 supplier for production-intent development programs.
    • Knowledge of automotive power electronics - Inverter, DC-DC Converters, etc.
    • Knowledge of automotive energy storage subsystems (HV Battery) and its controls.
    • Demonstrated understanding of ISO26262 – Functional Safety.
    • Practical experience with Diagnostics verification and compliance.
    • Significant experience in Electric or PHEV development & system integration.
