    The Electromechanical Design Engineer is responsible for mechanical design and validation activity for Power Electronics components including mechanical packaging, structure for loads and durability, thermal/environmental requirements, and electro-magnetic interference (EMI) and compatibility. This role reports directly to Supervisor Powertrain – Electromechanical Design.

    Responsibilities

    The position includes, but is not limited to:

    • Electromechanical development via packaging constraints, mechanical, electrical, thermal, environmental and EMI/EMC performance for Power Electronics including Inverters.
    • Utilize state-of-the-art modeling & simulation CAE tools to support design work and critical engineering decisions.
    • Develop and execute electromechanical test and validation plans.
    • Participate in the design, analysis, development, and validation of all electromechanical components, and effectively supports subsystem and vehicle-level integration to ensure high-quality performance.
    • Support all Engineering Design and Release requirements for electromechanical components to include 2D/3D mechanical drawings, D&P FMEA, Engineering Change Management activities, vehicle operation issues, and cross-functional engineering support.
    • Participate in investigation into internal, assembly and customer quality issues for timely, high-confidence resolution. Support robust problem-solving methodology (8D, Red-X, etc.) to define root cause and develop issue resolution path.
    • Track status and report to supervisor/manager and engineering.
    • Utilize issue tracking tool (JIRA) to manage day-to-day issue resolution plans.
    • Support opportunities for process improvements, tool development, and knowledge capture and retention.
    • Engage with suppliers for product development.       Travel is required, including international.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

      • MS in Mechanical Engineering with specialty in mechanical design or CAE.
      • 3-5 years’ experience in mechanical design (2D/3D drawings)
      • General understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) techniques.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • General understanding of automotive industry standards such as ASTM, SAE, ISO.

     

     

    Preferred Qualifications: (In addition to required):

     

    • Experience with automotive OEM or Tier 1 production-intent development programs.
    • Participation in complete product development life cycle
    • Mechanical design for power electronics
