    The Technical Specialist-Power Electronics is responsible for leading the development of power electronic hardware and firmware for Inverter, DC-DC converter, on-board charge, and solar panel boost converter for current and future electric powertrains. This position will also support the development of electric motors.

    Responsibilities

    The position includes, but is not limited to:

    • Lead power electronics EE team on component design including power semiconductor selections, evaluations, prototyping, topology study, as well as alignment to vehicle level requirement.
    • Analyze, model and simulate power electronics unit, from device level, to subsystem, to PCBA, to vehicle level.
    • Develop and coordinate with application software team to meet the functionality plan of entire drive module.
    • Support electric machine engineers on motor/generator characterization
    • Lead the power electronics EE engineering to support vehicle level power electronics integration and issue debugging.
    • Lead the effort on evaluating overall conformance to regulatory requirements and address deficiencies.
    • Lead the fault tolerance of power electronics module analysis and verify the fault mitigation and response.
    • Develop the DFEMA, DVP of power electronics modules.
    • Lead the magnetic devices design and evaluation, not limited to inductance, choke, etc.
    • Lead the WBG device study and rapid prototyping the power electronics modules.

    • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans.
    • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments.
    • Strong teamwork skills. Able to develop consensus and move the program forward. Develop win-win situations.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

      • MS or PhD in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with specialty in power electronics, controls, or automotive engineering
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Excellent technical oral and written communication skills.
      • Ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans.
      • Demonstrated understanding of vehicle development & system integration process.
      • Knowledge of control systems in Electric Vehicles or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV).
      • Hands on experience electrical control systems validation and diagnostics.
      • Familiar with industry standards for electronics design and manufacturing, especially automotive
      • Familiar with electronic circuit board design and development
      • Knowledge of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of hybrid vehicle systems.

     

     

    Preferred Qualifications: (In addition to required):

     

    • PhD in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with specialty in Power Electronics.
    • Multiple peer-reviewed technical publications - Power Electronics or Electric Machines.
    • Demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on experience with automotive OEM high voltage electrical systems (such as inverter, converter, charger, or battery) used in electric or hybrid electric vehicles.
    • Experience managing early-stage or growth-mode teams, especially in Power Electronics.
    • Strong expertise in automotive power electronics - Inverter, DC-DC Converters, etc.
    • Demonstrated understanding of automotive energy storage subsystems (HV Battery) and its controls.
    • Powertrain system knowledge including engine, motor, battery & brake control.
    • Practical experience with Diagnostics verification and compliance.
    • Significant experience in Electric or PHEV development & system integration.
