    Karma Automotive is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer in a globally growing organization driving new supplier identification and audits, assessing supplier capability, and leading the successful transition of new and legacy products and technologies to suppliers within an assigned region (Supplier Footprint optimization).  In addition develops strong partnerships with suppliers to repair broken processes, eliminate waste, achieve cost reduction initiatives, resolve supplier production/design issues, support supplier Lean and Six Sigma activity, and reduce the risk of poor quality and/or late delivery to customers due to supplier performance and/or constraint/throughput issues.


    ** Please note this position will work out of our Irvine, CA corporate offices.**


    • Execution of sourcing and supplier development plans.
    • Function as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support. Provides a clear vision of supplier development strategy and processes for internal teams and suppliers.
    • Leads formal project assessments, and manages all phases of the project lifecycle.
    • Implement and monitor the part qualification certification process with selected suppliers.
    • Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
    • Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system, or other technical support as required.
    • Integrate closely with supplier engineers on existing problem solving investigations and identify root causes and implement irreversible corrective actions from in-house data, Customer feedback, Warranty tracking data, Voice of the Customer data and other related sources.
    • Help suppliers improve production output and productivity and eliminate bottlenecks by using demonstrated skills in Constraint Management and Throughput Optimization in a Cellular (one piece flow) as well as batch and hold environment, with focus on Cost Reduction.
    • Experience dealing with low volume and high complexity manufacturing environment. Develop technical solutions for current production and new launch issues within the supply base and those impacting the customer assembly plant
    • Teaming with other functions to ensure that assigned suppliers are capable of new product launches and incremental business growth to meet/exceed customer performance objectives using tools like Run @ Rate Analysis, etc.
    • Benchmark manufacturing processes and drive implementation of
      best practices like FIFO, Waste Elimination, Value Stream Mapping, Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) within the supply base assigned.
    • Lead KAIZAN workshops at suppliers for work/task simplification.
    • Determine part critical characteristics and required process controls.
    • Review tool, fixture and part design.
    • Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise.
    • Provide to Management clear, concise reports and summaries of findings on an as specified basis.


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
    • Highly proficient in print reading and interpretation and part measurement.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of geometric design and tolerance and gage design and function.
    • Up to 75% Travel is required all year round.
    • 10 years working experience in the automotive/aerospace industry preferred
    • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments, Constraints Management, Throughput Optimization, Lean Manufacturing.
    • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, facilities and equipment and auditing of the same.
    • Subject Matter Expert on Castings and Forgings.  Sheet Metal Experience a Plus.
    • Must be proven, capable, hands-on, practical Problem Solver with extensive Manufacturing Plant experience and consistently demonstrated results.
    • Must be able to demonstrate previous Practical Problem Solving, Error Proofing Coaching experience.
    • Demonstrated project management skills.
    • Superior communication skills.
    • The ability to influence, stimulate and energize suppliers.
