     The Design Release Engineer (Interiors Engineering) is responsible for the development, execution, and deliverables associated to the complete vehicle interior



    • Engineer and release Interior parts and assemblies via the development, design & release process.
    • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methods, Tooling expertise & Manufacturing Plant Assembly knowledge to develop parts and assemblies effectively while evaluating cost reduction & quality improvements.
    • Elevate, track & help resolve Interior issues
    • Execute the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) with relative suppliers to ensure released parts meet quality targets.
    • Support the program launch, at the plant as needed, while documenting and resolving associated issues.
    • Maintain the Interiors CAD assembly in the Product Data Management system (currently SmarTeam).
    • Interface with the Design Studio to ensure aesthetic targets & DFM requirements are harmonized.
    • Interface with the Color & Materials and Craftsmanship department to ensure Interior materials are comprehended and incorporated effectively.
    • Support the application & finalization of typical sections and dimensional specifications & tolerances.
    • Support sourcing activities as needed, including the creation and delivery of interior sourcing packages and by providing educated tooling cost & time estimates.
    • Support department supervisors & managers with reports & presentation materials as required


      • Knowledge of automotive vehicle systems with an emphasis on automotive interiors, including but not limited to; interior assemblies, components, materials, tooling, packaging, & dimensional specifications.
      • Knowledge of interior lighting, electrical wiring, speakers, HVAC, airbags & restraints.
      • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, Best Practices, Interior Development Processes, Global Safety Requirements, Regulations & Zones (including FMVSS, ECE/ECC and head impact effects on interiors) Continuous Improvement and Aesthetic Interior Design (Studio).
      • Knowledge of Automotive Interior Supply Chain and a basic understanding of sourcing processes.
      • Must be able to assess the needs of the program and assist with cost and timing estimates.
      • Must be able to evaluate all associated tasks & apply accurate completion timing.
      • Must display the ability to identify problems, elevate concerns, recommend solutions & resolve issues.
      • Must be able to accept personal responsibility & accountability for program execution & quality of work.
      • Must be able to communicate efficiently & effectively with internal & external departments & work equally well within a team or individually as required.
      • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
