    The Powertrain System Analysis Engineer is responsible for cascading requirements from the vehicle level to powertrain subsystem and component level. Specifically the Powertrain Systems Analysis Engineer will develop analysis tools to support requirement definition for hybrid electric powertrains.

    Responsibilities

    • Using vehicle performance targets create powertrain system technical specification
    • Develop system level simulations and analysis tools
    • Perform vehicle drive cycle simulations analyzing fuel economy, all electric range, acceleration performance, emissions etc.
    • Develop drivetrain system NVH modelsPerform parameter studies to understand system sensitivity, and optimize specifications of components to balance all requirements
    • Correlate simulation models with test data, and create post processing scripts for analysis of vehicle and component level testing.
    • Summarize and present results of findings to engineering managers and program management
    • Write test specifications to validate systems requirements
    • Benchmark powertrain system development within the industry
    • Stay up to date on the latest powertrain architecture and perform tradeoff studies to recommend architecture for future Karma vehicles

    Qualifications

    General Requirements for consideration

     

    Should be able to demonstrate a background knowledge and functional competence in the following areas:

    • Hybrid Powertrain subsystems
      • Transmissions, gears and driveline operation
      • Electric motors / generators. (AC Machines)
      • Internal combustion engines
      • Power Electronics – Inverters, High Voltage Subsystems
      • Battery Packs (Lithium battery technology)
    • Analysis tools
      • Matlab/Simulink
      • GT Suite or comparable 1D simulation tool
      • Vehicle, Thermal, NVH, systems analysis
      • System optimization

     

    Character traits and related responsibility

    • Works with all levels of management, including executive management
    • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans
    • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments
    • Communicates directly with management and cross-functional leaders as required
    • Good team work skills and ability to put success of project ahead of personal agenda

     

    Required Qualifications

    • Undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills
      • 2 years of demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on experience with hybrid powertrain systems or equivalent academic experience
      • Broad system modelling and analysis experience

       

      Preferred Qualifications (In addition to required)

      • Masters / PhD of Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent)
      • Hybrid Powertrain development with a major OEM on production intent development programs
      • Experience with 3D simulation tools (CFD, FEA)
      Experience in simulation validation experiments
