    The ECM Test and Development Engineer will be responsible all of the aspects related to proper documentation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of the Engine Control Module (ECM) software. This engineer will work with the ECM Team to understand the ECM software, document requirements, and create and execute test procedures.   He or she will also aid in the planning and execution of testing relevant to the ECM including hot weather, high altitude, and cold weather test trips, as well as relevant emission development testing.  The successful engineer must be highly motivated, hands-on, a good problem solver, and willing to travel up to at least 6 weeks a year for testing.


    • Work with the ECM Team to understand ECM requirements and work with Karma’s Software Quality Team to properly document ECM requirements within Karma’s internal tracking systems (Polarion and JIRA)
    • Create and execute ECM test cases within Karma’s internal system (Polarion)
    • Work with ECM Team to develop a full set of regression tests for proper ECM software validation, for application to module-level, system-level, and vehicle-level testing
    • Work with Karma’s hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) team to ensure proper integration of ECM requirements within the Karma HIL
    • Be responsible for ECM within Karma’s Software Baseline Release Process
    • Identify, source, and implement necessary test equipment as relates to ECM software and calibration development and validation
    • Execute ECM software validation at system and vehicle level
    • Troubleshoot ECM-related issues within the internal development fleet: root-cause issues, document issues through JIRA, and communicate back to ECM team to aid in proper development of resolutions within ECM software
    • Follow-up on ECM related issues reported through JIRA and drive issues to resolution
    • ECM test and development trips including: organizing trips for the ECM at the module level, creating and executing test plans, analyzing results, and creating reports.
    • Work with Powertrain System’s group to support ECM related testing and development
    • Participate in vehicle-level test trips


    • Deliver a complete, accurate EBOM for release
    • B.S. in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Control Systems)
    • Hands-on engineer with good problem solving skills
    • Ability to collaborate and work cross-functionally with calibration and development engineers, ECM Team, HCU Team, OBDII Team, Powertrain Systems Team, Software Quality Team, and Vehicle Integration Team)
    • Ability to innovate, create, and deliver on projects (from concept, through testing and development stage, to implementation)
    • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills
    • Interest in working in an automotive start-up


      Desired Qualifications


      • Experience working with ETAS hardware and software including INCA
      • Experience with CANalyzer and Vector suite software/hardware
      • Experience working with Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems
      • Experience working in automotive engineering start-up environment
      • Working knowledge of PHEV / EV powertrain architecture
      • Working knowledge of common vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN)
      • Experience testing with standard diagnostic tools
      • Familiarity with diagnostic protocols and OBDI
