    Our work environment is casual, and our culture is results-oriented.  The Powertrain Systems Engineer- Functional Safety is responsible for performing safety activities according to the request of the Functional Safety Lead Engineer and providing assistance to the program teams in delivering the work products of the safety case in compliance with ISO 26262 Functional Safety Standard.

    Responsibilities

    • Development of functional safety technical work products (hazard analysis and risk assessment, item definition, functional safety concept, technical safety requirements, FTA's, FMEA's, and other safety analyses for safety requirements
    • Documentation of the functional safety work products according to Karma Automotive’s documentation guidelines and processes
    • Development of test case specifications for safety requirements
    • Participating in functional safety reviews
    • Supporting bench/HIL tests and system/vehicle validation of functional safety requirements
    • Collaboration with the engineers working at the system, hardware and software development level and assisting them to achieve functional safety objectives
    • Performing other duties as necessary for completion of functional safety developments and achievement of departmental goals

    • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and documentation assignments
    • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans
    • Must be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
    • Strong teamwork skills. Able to develop consensus and move the program forward. Develop win-win situations.

     

    Required Qualifications

    • Undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
    • 2-4 years of demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands on experience with safety systems. Relevant internships/university projects may be counted towards the work experience
    • Good knowledge of safety engineering and the ISO 26262 standard
    • Good knowledge of the FMEA and FTA principles and analysis techniques
    • Hybrid powertrain experience
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Visio, Word and Excel 

     

    Preferred Qualifications (In addition to required)

    • Masters of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent)
    • Experience in functional safety development with a major OEM on production intent development programs
    • Detailed knowledge of hybrid powertrain, energy storage subsystems and controls
