    The Manager, Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics role manages chassis component suppliers proactively to meet program timing and quality objectives.

    Responsibilities

    • Technical specifications for all chassis systems and components to meet functional requirements.
    • Design and release for chassis components to support on-time production bill-of-material.
    • Sourcing for components to meet budget, timing and quality targets for all programs.
    • Deliver chassis quality improvements through component design, process control, problem-solving techniques, supplier engagement, and/or assembly instruction.
    • Complete chassis development to meet all functional targets including regulatory/certification requirements.
    • Development and validation test results and reports to support component and system-level DVP&R.
    • Complete engineering/validation for fastener sizing, selection, torque specification and retention.
    • Achieve PPAP of responsible components and coordinate required validation testing materials and resources.
    • Build internal capability within team through hiring, training, mentoring, and educational development.
    • Establish industry-leadership for Program driving dynamics performance relative to competitive set.
    • Steering feel: Torque buildup, linearity, steering weight, deadband, feedback/isolation
    • Ride: rolling plushness/feel, secondary ride control, impact performance/recession
    • Handling: Lane change performance, grip, phase lag, directional stability, returnability, parking efforts
    • Braking: Pedal feel, braking confidence, stopping distance, fade, regen energy recapture
    • Driveline isolation: start-up/stop shudder, high frequency whine, structural borne noise
    • Identify and publish best-in-class driving dynamics attributes, with subjective and proprietary objective data.
    • Achieve flawless vehicle production launch of all chassis components and systems.
    • Document and pursue chassis cost and quality improvements, as required.
    • Resolve all chassis-specific quality issues.
    • Deliver continuous improvement initiatives, supporting world-class performance.
    • Budget, headcount & timing requirements to achieve program and department goals.

    • Manage engineering team responsible for chassis design and vehicle dynamics development, including:

    • Suspension, steering, brakes, wheels/tires, sub frames, powertrain isolation & axle shafts

    • Brake controls including regenerative-blend "by-wire" brake modulation system.

    • Chassis systems integration for optimum vehicle-level performance and reduced tradeoffs.

    • Package requirements, hard points, kinematic & compliance definition.

    • Road loads for component design, durability, steering, ride & handling attributes. 

    • Lead all vehicle dynamics testing activity, both subjective and objective.

    • Lead all chassis Design Release Engineer (DRE) activity for relevant components including release process, component drawings and other supporting documentation, through verification, validation & certification.

    • Regular reviews with engineering, quality, marketing, purchasing, and manufacturing to achieve effective cross-functional communication.

    • Chassis development / testing strategy and timing plan to ensure compatibility with overall program; monitor resources as required to minimize risks; support alternate plans as required.

    • Platform engineering for variant definition, bandwidth, mechanical & occupant package.

    • Support vehicle integration/CAE with correlation road loads definition for chassis, body, and powertrain.

    • Serve as technical leader for all chassis subject matter in senior level or critical decision meetings.

    • Pursue chassis product innovation and competitive-advantage breakthrough technologies.

    • Lead chassis prototype and production assembly events at domestic or international locations.

    • Support all chassis relevant vehicle-level certification requirements for FMVSS and ECE.

    Qualifications

    • Travel up to 50% supporting vehicle development, build events, development testing, and supplier visits.
    • BS in Mechanical Engineering; MS in Engineering or MBA preferred.
    • 15+ years experience in chassis/suspension design, development, vehicle dynamics, or vehicle integration.
    • 8+ years experience in engineering management.
    • Fluent English speaker. Chinese language a plus.
    • Experience managing or performing studies with multibody simulation tools such as Adams.
    • Cross functional experience in multiple disciplines including chassis, powertrain, CAE, body structure, electrical/controls, fasteners, manufacturing, vehicle package and attitude, certification/validation.
    • Ability to effectively communicate complex issues to senior management in formal and informal settings.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with teamwork mindset; able to handle stressful situations with composure.
    • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
