    The Senior Design Release Engineer reports to the Supervisor, Closures. This role acts like a Project Manager and is responsible for Closures Exterior Panels and Hardware (to include forged, and stamped hinges)


    • Senior Design Release Engineer responsible for Closures Exterior Panels, and Hardware and Seals
    • Manage parts from initial design, to prototype phase, and production
    • Create and manage EBOM (Engineering Bill of Materials), including material selection and finish
    • Coordinate release of engineering changes, and appropriate documentation
    • Provide weekly updates of progress, goals and road blocks
    • Apply budget constraints as part of the engineering design process, and ensure most cost efficient design
    • Able to generate business case for design proposals and provide engineering recommendation
    • Able to work within a cross-functional team to achieve goals
    • Verify styling theme feasibility (manufacturing, ergonomic, service, safety, regulatory etc.)

    • Understand and update Engineering documentation such as TES’s (Tech. Spec’s), DFMEA’s (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DVP’s (Design Verification Plan)
    • Able to coordinate and complete mock-up of parts for evaluation
    • Able to work closely with suppliers to achieve goals
    • Track open issues via issue tracking process, drive communication to closure of issues
    • Plan for parts timing alignment with overall program timing plan
    • Coordinate testing to validate seal design
    • Excellent communication skills and team player approach required
    • Consults with colleagues and supervisor as required
    • Report and escalate major issues immediately to Supervisor
    • Develop targets for investment (engineering and tooling) and piece cost
    • Able to develop criteria sections for future vehicles
    • Conduct vehicle benchmark studies / technical research of competitive products, present findings and suggest recommendations

    • Able to provide guidance and direction to Junior Engineers


    • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or similar required
    • 5 Plus Years Sheet Metal, Hardware, and/or Seals Design Release Engineering experience
    • 5 Plus Years Component Design/Engineering Development
    • Good analytical skills for calculating simple structures, or perform using CAE
    • CATIA V5 experience preferred
    • SmarTeam experience preferred
    • Experience or knowledge of root cause analysis or Design of Experiment
    • Previous OEM and automotive experience required
    • Previous Design Release Engineer experience in Product Engineering required
    • Previous assembly plant launch experience required
    • Dimensional Management and Dimensional Checking experience preferred. Understanding of GD&T required
    • Good Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) required
    • Good Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) required
    • Experience with Frameless Door Systems preferred
    • Experience in developing and working Criteria Development Section (Typical Sections)
    • Willingness to travel to supplier, and assembly plant during launch
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and others
    • Experience or knowledge of forming processes such as stamping, injection moldings, casting, and extrusion

    • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
