The Director, Powertrain Integration and Operations will manage Powertrain integration, Thermal Management System, HVAC departments for multiple Battery Electric and Plug-In Hybrid vehicle programs. Oversee development to ensure all vehicle and subsystem technical specifications and regulations are met.  Create long term plans for technology and organizational development.  Final responsibility to meet program budget, performance and timing deliverables. Business responsibility for powertrain sales & marketing of component, kits, services.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead Thermal Systems core activities to meet performance, timing and cost deliverables. Thermal systems responsibilities include cabin HVAC, battery cooling/heating, powertrain cooling.
  • Manage HVAC Controls development
  • Advise executive management on strategic technical issues including applicable thermal FMVSS and sets vehicle program deliverables.
  • Manage testing to validate PT Cooling, HVAC and Under-hood Thermal Management systems.
  • Participate in sourcing process as required
  • Manage Supervisor responsible for Thermal CAE simulating system performance.
  • Review and approve Vehicle Technical Specifications and Subsystems Technical Specifications to ensure they’re consistent with high quality, best value and program total cost.
  • Review component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods
  • Develop development plans and budgets. Assures they are on track.
  • Build talent. Mentor engineering reports to excel.
  • Develop and implement a vehicle integration process that tracks attainment of vehicle, component (internal & supplier) DFMEAs and DVP&Rs to 100% achievement
  • Build cooperative relationships with cross-functional engineering teams that results in long term cooperation and best possible support.
  • Maintain a technology roadmap and assess technology for future applications and improvements. Assure new technology is implementation ready.
  • Assist vehicle program team to develop alternatives and recommends future improvements to existing systems and assists in the development of future architectures and functionality rollout plans.
  • Business responsibility for sales & marketing of efforts dealing with powertrain component, kits, services.

 

Qualifications

  •  

Education/Experience:

 

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. PhD preferred.
  • 10 - 15 years of related responsibility, preferably with OEM vehicles
  • Working knowledge of best practices and methods for vehicle thermal systems.
  • 10+ years of experience leading and managing engineering teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable
